Metsulfuron methyl is a sulfonylurea herbicide that inhibits the acetolactate synthase (ALS) enzyme, which is required for the biosynthesis of branched-chain amino acids in plants. This inhibition halts cell division and growth, leading to the gradual death of susceptible broad-leaved weeds. Metsulfuron methyl is classified under HRAC/WSSA Group 2 (ALS inhibitors).
Metryne (Metsulfuron Methyl 20% WP) is mixed with the recommended volume of water, together with the label-specified non-ionic surfactant, and applied as a post-emergence foliar spray in wheat, using standard knapsack or boom sprayers, following the approved product label.
